Well, folks, it’s happened — November is here, the harvest is more or less over, and it’s time for our farmers to take a deep breath and start putting the garden to bed for the winter. But we wouldn’t be a proper farm without the last hurrah of a harvest party!
With a down-home chili & cornbread buffet from the indefatigable Chef Laura, a “petting farm” with our friendliest four-legged friends, wildcrafted decorations bringing the best of fall color inside, a DIY movie theater playing the barnyard classic “Babe,” hot cider & donuts from Dexter Cider Mill, and a nice big fire pit, we set the scene for our annual CSA Appreciation Dinner. This is our chance to say thank you to the local folks who make possible all that we do out here, and to invite them out to enjoy the farm that their support has helped to grow. Most of our staff attended as well, with friends and family, truly bringing the “community” part of “Community Supported Agriculture.”
Chef Laura presented a truly enviable spread of shiitake spread, eggplant pâté, root veggie slaw, and three types of chili — vegan Harvest Chili, lamb carnitas chili, and white chicken chili — all made with Robin Hills produce and meat. Our junior crew members, Ari & Cami, made sure that everyone was signed up for our raffle, and we sent lots of happy people home with boxes of organic veggies and Sweetwaters gift cards.
On the whole, it was a festive night of food & community. We think we did our due diligence as a farm, ushering out the harvest season with a bang. But it’s not over yet! We still have holiday CSA shares available for Thanksgiving & winter celebrations, as well as pasture-raised lamb, fresh free-range eggs and our heritage broiler Chicken CSA. As you may know, we never slow down here at Robin Hills Farm!
